Students Helping Students Initiative
Where students from one school help similar aged students at another!
The Students Helping Students initiative is where we encourage students of all ages and education levels (elementary school, middle school, secondary school, and post-secondary school) to fundraise and host donation drives for YNOTFORTOTS’ special project schools and families. Van Horne Elementary School
Van Horne Elementary School hosted a hockey tournament fundraiser with grade 6 and 7 students and collected pledge money to support our Special Project schools!

Gobind Sarvar School
We are lucky to have the Gobind Sarvar School fundraising for our Special Project schools! In particular, they will be hosting a donation drive for Lord Roberts and Captain James Cook Elementary School. They will be collecting the following items:
- Floor hockey sticks.
- Calculators.
- Chess sets.
- Pencil cases.
- Decks of cards.
- Basketballs.
- Jump ropes.
- Math games.
- Paint brushes.
- Rulers.
St. John’s School
2019
The grade 2 class raised almost $1000 for our special project schools!
2018
The entire school volunteered to collect school supplies to donate to YNOTFORTOTS so we can distribute them to needy schools and families in Vancouver!
2017
- A group of grade 11 students are also working hard to help support YNOTFORTOTS’ special project schools. Until May 2017, they are collecting item donations via donation drives for cooking equipment, art supplies, and sporting goods for Edmonds Community School and sporting goods for Harry Hooge Elementaryschool. We thank them for their continued support!
- The entire grade 2 class fundraised for YNOTFORTOTS in May and raised over $215 to help other students their age!
April 1, 2017 (1 pm – 3 pm)
Another group of grade 11 students worked hard to organize an incredible art auction called Exceptional Minds. High school students from the IB Art classes at St. John’s School and elementary school students at John Henderson Elementary created the masterpieces to auction. These pieces included stories, canvas paintings, and some photography. All proceeds of the auction sales went straight to helping Y

Trafalgar Elementary School
April 27, 2017
This is exactly what we had in mind when we started our Students Helping Students Initiative. Our incredible helpers at Trafalgar Elementary School came with us to meet students at Seymour Elementary, whom they have been bonding with in the last few months via a pen pal system we initiated. Today they got to meet their pen pals, deliver all the donations, play games, eat a pizza lunch, and work together in an egg drop contest! It was incredible to see the grade 6 and 7 students building friendships and having so much fun all day! Total, we donated:
- 20 Snap Circuits (to teach students about electricity).
- 26 8×10 frames
- 50 black & 50 white mats
- 100 30 cm x 35 cm watercolor sheets
- 100 clear plastic sleeves
- 6 bowls
- 12 wooden spoons
- 4 measuring cups & spoons
- tupperware containers for dry goods
Ongoing in 2017
Trafalgar raised over $500 for YNOTFORTOTS from their Santa’s Workshop on December 8, 2016! The Student Council has decided they will use this money to purchase Snap Circuits and cooking equipment for Admiral Seymour Elementary School! They will also be accompanying us in the delivery of their donations (date TBA).
The student councils of Admiral Seymour and Trafalgar Elementary also look forward to meeting each other during the donation delivery and will be keen to keep in touch. With the help of these two schools, YNOTFORTOTS will help facilitate a pen pal partnership between Seymour and Trafalgar in order to continue communication and to help the students make new friends in their partner school!
December 8, 2016
Trafalgar’s third annual Santa’s Workshop will be held on December 8th. The workshop gives all the little elves the opportunity to purchase gifts for their loved ones for only $1 per item and wrap them the same day. Some popular items include books, jewelry, cufflinks, DVDs, CDs, Games, puzzles, candles, pictures, toys, ties, scarves, vases, ornaments and anything else that could be re-gifted. Part of the proceeds goes to purchasing Item Registry items for YNOTFORTOTS special project schools! The organizers are also accepting donations of wrapping paper, gift bags, bows, and name tags as the older grades will be helping to wrap the students’ purchases.
John Henderson Elementary School
After our delivery to John Henderson Elementary, the student leadership team at John Henderson Elementary took it upon themselves to give back to fellow students! Through ongoing bake / chip sales as well as selling unique wrist bands, they are working hard to raise money to donate to YNOTFORTOTS in order to help other schools!
Many students across grades as well as a teacher at John Henderson also donated beautiful art pieces and photographs for the Exceptional Minds art auction that was held at St. John’s School on April 1, 2017.
UBC Psychology Students’ Association
The UBC Psychology Students’ Association generously collected donations for Lord Strathcona Elementary School in December 2016! They are collected:
- Bed sheet sets (fitted, flat and pillow cases, 4 of each twin, double, queen).
- Comforters.
- Pillows.
